Taxpayer has little sympathy for inmates (10/25/05)

To the editor:

This letter is in regards to the letter written by the female inmates at the Jay County Jail which was printed Tuesday, Oct. 18. As a taxpayer I feel that you should not be concerned with lack of recreation time and other such luxuries. If you wanted those things you should have kept yourself out of trouble and not been a menace to society. Now you are a burden to the rest of us taxpayers who are trying to keep heat in our own houses, gas in our tanks, and buy our own toiletries. You should feel lucky that you are given a place to sleep (however cold it may be), and food to eat. These inmates should be thankful for what they are given while incarcerated, and not concentrate on what they do not get.

As far as I’m concerned, I think that jail isn’t exactly the appropriate place to form friendly relationships. Especially with the opposite sex!

Maybe they should focus their time on their rehabilitation instead of trying to find ways to spend more of our money.

Ever heard, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you?” I think this applies here. You made the bed, now it’s time to lie in it.

From a taxpayer,

Jason Roessner

JCHS blood drive

To the editor:

The Jay County High School held its first blood drive of the year on Monday, Oct. 17.

Out of the 112 students and teachers who showed up to donate there were 72 first time donors and a total of 91 productive units.

Special thanks go out to the following businesses: Portland Walmart, Sugar 'n Slice, Pizza Hut, Arby’s, and Will’s IGA of Redkey.

These businesses donated the food and supplies that helped made the drive successful.

Thank you, also, to the American Red Cross for their unending support for people across the nation.

Whether it’s a hurricane or an auto accident, they’re always there.
