Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
"Wow, this has to be the most beautiful courthouse in Indiana."
"I vote for that tree."
"Oh, mom, look at that float!"
"Can we take another carriage ride?"
"When will Santa be here?"
These are some of the comments heart during WinterFest.
What a great event to kick off the Christmas season in Jay County. There are so many people and organizations to thank it would take many columns to do so individually. However, I must thank all of the sponsors who made the event possible, all of the organizations who sponsored trees at the courthouse and the carriage rides, the merchants who decorated their windows so beautifully, and those who held open houses during the festival. Many thanks to the Portland Rotary Club for sponsoring the Parade of Lights and all of the volunteers who gave of their time or donated services for this community event.
The WinterFest committee members are Melissa McKinnies, chair, Cindy Denney, George Goldsworthy, Carla Pogue, Jane Ann Runyon, Carly Sanderson, Nancy Moser, Tonya Roser, Sue Wade, Emily Roberts, Gayle Broadwater and Sue McBride. Please thank these individuals when you see them.
As we have formally kicked off the Christmas season, I want to urge all of you to support our county-wide businesses during the holiday shopping season. Our local merchants carry everything from practical gifts to unique boutique items. Something for everyone.
Please be mindful of helping our local economy as you decide where to purchase gifts for those special people on your Christmas list.
The Jay County Chamber of Commerce wishes all of you a very Merry Christmas.

To the editor:
Cub Scout Pack 3202 recently held a silent auction and sold hot chocolate during WinterFest. We would like to thank the following local businesses for their donations:
P.G. Jellison, Flower Nook, Summer Breeze tanning, Patriot Fitness and Tyler Newell, Dave's Heating and Cooling, Beyond the Gilded Willow, Bank of Geneva, Marsh, Mike's Rent-All, Fishers, Ponderosa, Classic Cuts and Classic Nails, Ja-mar, Fastenal, Evans' Fine Jewelry, First Bank of Berne, CVS, Fiesta, Bandido's, and AutoZone.
A special thank you to Arby's and Chalet Village for allowing us to use their Thermos. Also to McDonald's for the cups and hot water.
Thank you to everyone in the community for their support. Cub Scouts is a wonderful program.
Without community support the program would not be possible.
