Thanks given for Fiber Fest efforts
Letters to the Editor
The Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau recently held its annual Fiber Fest & Spin-In at the Jay County Fairgrounds. We are happy to announce that the event was a huge success with visitors coming from all over the Tri-state area. Over the course of two days the Fiber Fest Event brought in over 800 visitors and had over 30 students sign-up for a variety of classes.
The annual event began in 2004 as a place for spinners and fiber artist to come and share their knowledge of the art. A variety of fibers and products were on display and for sell. In addition, there were demonstrations of weaving, quilting, rug hooking, basket weaving and a room full of educated people eager to share their knowledge.
Visitors could bring their raw fibers to have it washed and processed by the Wooly Knob Fiber Mill. This year we added a petting zoo; kids classes and a storyteller, along with sheep shearing and dog herding activities that we have done in the past.
The Benefit Soup Supper is always a favorite with The Limberlost String Band entertaining. Zach Medler and area children make clay bowls as a way to give back to support the community.
We would like to thank the following for donating for the Jay County Food Bank Benefit.
Adair's Meat Market
Bearcreek Farms
Fishers Packing
McDonald's of Portland
Pak-a-Sak
Troyers Market
Wick's Pies
Stitch 'n' Chatter Quilt Club
Anonymous Donor
We have many volunteers behind the scenes that are too numerous to mention. I want to thank each one of them for making this event a success. This year's Fiber Fest & Spin-In has received several compliments including: "small-town friendly show"; "best small show" and "what a great time we had at this awesome event."
Thank you to MainSource Bank and WPGW radio for their support.
Thank You,
Gyneth Augsburger
