Thanks given to area heroes (04/04/08)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Once again the caring citizens of this community have met a challenge in donating 162 units of blood for the American Red Cross' "Pint Size Heroes" blood drive program.

This life-saving challenge was recently accomplished when all students in Jay County elementary and middle schools participated in a presentation about the life-saving importance of blood donation.

Following the presentation, students were then encouraged to share this information with anyone they knew who met the criteria for blood donation. As donors responded, information was collected by school nurses and/or health clerks and donor appointments were set.

Below is a list of the locations where blood drives were held:

West Jay Community Center (sponsored by West Jay Middle School and Westlawn and Redkey elementary schools.

Bloomfield Elementary (sponsored by Bloomfield and Pennville elementary schools).

Jay County High School (sponsored by JCHS student council).

East Jay Middle School (sponsored by East Jay Middle School, General Shanks, Judge Haynes and East elementary schools and Jay Christian Academy).

The realization of these life-saving events was made possible because of the continuing support of Dr. Long, school principals and staff, 357 students recruiting 214 adults, WPGW and The Commercial Review.

In closing, I again want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the residents of Jay County for supporting the American Red Cross by giving the gift of life.

Betsi Skiver,

Red Cross volunteer[[In-content Ad]]
