Thanks given to community (12/08/07)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Once again this community has responded with open, caring hearts to the community Thanksgiving dinner. You not only made generous donations, allowing us to serve 367 meals, but shared your love and compassion as well.
The warmth and smiles of all enjoying the day confirms that affection was felt by each and every one.
When the event was over and the afternoon assessed, we found ourselves echoing the same sentiment as in the past: "This one was the best."
Thank you, Jay County, for showing a very powerful kindness that reaches out to all and keeps folks coming home for the holidays.
Carol Smith, for the

Senseless
To the editor:
I said it the last time a senseless tragedy happened involving a maniac shooting up a public place. The suicide note of the Omaha nut job confirms my prediction. "Now I will be famous" was included in the last words of a suicide killer.
I am certainly not an expert on the matter, but it seems to me that part of the thought process leading up to these acts is the idea that people will finally know who they are. All you need to do to become famous is go on a killing rampage, kill yourself, and the world will discuss you for weeks to come.
Well I have had enough. It is time to take away the privilege of notoriety for these murderers. If you want to kill yourself, think twice, but you don't get to be famous for taking others out with you.
It is time that the media stop enabling them in their madness. I call on all media to withhold the names and images of suicide killers and mass murderers. I would even support a law to accomplish it. The first amendment does NOT protect speech that is against public safety. Getting shot in a mall, or at school, is certainly a public safety issue.
Respectfully submitted,
Sam Racster
