Thanks given to members of car club (09/14/07)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

I would like to thank Duane and Louise Harter and family, along with the Hollow Block club, for the wonderful car show and benefit that was for my son Kendon Hoover.

The car show was a success and we had such a great time. Kendon and our family are very appreciative of everything Hollow Block has done for Kendon.

You made a great kid feel even better about himself. Kendon has had a hard summer, but the Hollow Block car show really helped raise his spirits.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Kendon can't wait until next year's car show.

Sincerely,

Jamie Jester (Kendon's mom)

Ella update

To the editor:

We want to thank The Commercial Review and Virginia Cline for such a nice write-up about Ella and Northeast Indiana Easter Seals. Due to your help our team, "Team Ella," was very successful.

Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana serves more than 2,000 individuals and their families in 16 counties. Ella is one of those individuals. Ella started at Stepping Stones when she was five months old, and her mother, a single mom, needed to return to work.

Ella has Cerebral Palsy due to a complicated birth. She was on a heart monitor and suffers from low muscle tone. Stepping Stones Center is a secure yet stimulating learning environment with a full-time nurse and staff suited for medically fragile infants and toddlers.

Ella is now 2 and is no longer on the heart monitor. She sits up on her own, enjoys reaching out for toys, plays with her classmates and is starting to walk with a walker.

Stepping Stones provides a good environment for some of Ella's therapists to do their therapy at the center. Ella receives eight therapies a week, including physical, occupational, speech and water therapy.

Now for "Team Ella's" results. We had 15 walkers on the team which consisted of family and friends. Our goal was $1,000 as a team. We raised $1,260. Due to a very generous family member who matched the team's efforts, we would able to raise $2,520 for Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana.

We want to say thank you to all who walked and those who made donationsd.

Sincerely,

Earl and Jill Douglass

Committee thanks

To the editor:

The Welcome Home to Portland festival committee sends a huge thank you to all for your willingness to participate in the inaugural festival.

The committee feels it was a great success and we hope to build on this success next year.

The tractor parade was wonderful, thanks to the engine and tractor show's enthusiastic involvement. Thank you to The Commercial Review and WPGW for great publicity. Portland looked great thanks to the city. They worked very hard.

We couldn't have had the festival without the participating businesses, food vendors, farmer's market vendors and car clubs' hard work. Thank you.

Last, but not least, thank you to all who attended. Hope to see you next year.
