Thien catches TD pass vs. Capital

Frank Thien made his one reception count.
The 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate put the first points on the board for the Ohio Northern University football team in Saturday’s 28-14 victory over Capital University.
Thien caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tate Humphrey with 4:29 on the clock in the opening quarter. The Polar Bears (1-2) extended their lead to 21-0 on the way to their first win of the season.
So far this season, Thien has two receptions for 52 yards. The senior has also made two tackles.

Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Led the Indiana University East men’s golf team to a second-place finish at the four-team Cincinnati Christian University Fall Invitational on Sept. 20.
Houck shared the top score for the Red Wolves as he posted an 8-over-par 79 at Miami Whitewater Golf Course in Harrison, Ohio. He tied with teammate Joey Smart and trailed only Matt Nichoson (74) and Austin Kyle (77) of Cincinnati State.
“Drew played really well today and nearly put us in position to win this tournament,” IU East coach Von Ebeling said in a press release.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2012
Turned in the top finish among a group of three former Starfires who competed Saturday at the Brissman-Lundren Invitational hosted by Augustana College.
Lehman helped his Goshen College men’s cross country team to an eighth-place finish in the field of 32 teams. He placed 118th overall and was the No. 7 runner for the Maple Leafs with a time of 28 minutes, 1.8 seconds, in the 8K race.
Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Also competed for Goshen College at the Brissman-Lundren Invitational as the women’s team finished 20th out of 32 teams.

Beitler posted the No. 6 time for the Maple Leafs as she finished the 6K race in 26 minutes, 13.9 seconds. She was 141st overall.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Ran in the Brissman-Lundren Invitational for the Bethel College men’s cross country team, which finished in 21st place.
Heckard turned in a time of 30 minutes, 2.4 seconds. He finished in 326th place.
Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Led the Bluffton University women’s soccer team in shots in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday over Oberlin.
Moore took a team-high four shots for the Beavers (2-6). She had two of the team’s eight shots on goal.
She also took a pair of shots in Friday’s 3-1 loss to Huntington.

Dustin Wanner
South Adams – 2012
Played for the Taylor University football team on Saturday in its 28-13 loss to Trine.
Wanner is a freshman defensive back for the Trojans (2-2).
