Thien catches two in victory

Collegiate Check-up

The Ohio Northern University football team had a former Indian starting at wide receiver Saturday as it improved to 5-3.
Frank Thien, a 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate, had a pair of receptions for the Polar Bears as they rolled to a 56-35 victory over visiting Marietta.
Thien’s first reception went for 25 yards and led to first-quarter scoring run by Seadrick Marshall that put ONU up 21-0. He added an 8-yard catch from quarterback Tyler Rue on a scoring drive in the second quarter.
The sophomore ranks second on the team this season with 20 receptions for 219 yards. He has scored a pair of touchdowns.

Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Turned in a fourth-place finish Friday for the Ball State University women’s swim team in its 142-101 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Vormohr had her best effort in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a fourth-place finish in 1 minute, 8.78 seconds. She teamed with Elaine Pitsas, Katie Saulman and Sumaiyah Ahmad to finish fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.52.

Dalton McGill
Jay County – 2009
Helped the Trine University football team to a 42-6 victory Saturday over Olivet.
McGill got in the game in the fourth quarter and teamed with Nicholas Wirt to tackle Mike Martin for no gain on Olivet’s final drive of the game.

Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Played for the Bluffton University women’s soccer team Wednesday as it won its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament opener 3-2 over Earlham.
Moore was in the starting lineup for the Beavers, who are in the midst of their best season in school history at 11-4-2, as they upset top-seeded Earlham (11-6-1). She was also in the starting lineup Oct. 26 in a 1-0 victory over Defiance and Saturday in a 4-1 loss to Hanover.
Bluffton will play Hanover again in the HCAC championship game Saturday at 2 p.m.

Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Started for the Huntington University men’s basketball team Tuesday in its 82-73 season-opening victory over St. Francis (Illinois).
Teeter started at guard and played 16 minutes.

Megan Taylor
Jay County – 2011
Competed Saturday for the Manchester College women’s cross country team, which finished first in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Anderson at Mounds State Park.
Taylor placed 40th in the field of 97 runners. She finished the 6K race in 26 minutes, 40.7 seconds.

Greg Kahlig
Ft. Recovery – 2010
Was the No. 2 scorer for the Findlay University men’s basketball team in a 93-75 exhibition victory Saturday over York.
Kahlig shot 6-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 from long distance, as he racked up 18 points in just 16 minutes. He also had five rebounds and two steals.[[In-content Ad]]
