Thien earns award, leads Tribe to win (05/20/08)

FRHS baseball

DELPHOS, Ohio - Frank Thien proved deserving of his honor.

The Fort Recovery junior was voted to the All-Midwest Athletic Conference team Sunday. A day later he delivered the key hit in the Indian baseball team's 2-1 win over the St. John's Blue Jays.

Thien plated the first Tribe run with a double in the first inning Monday to score Bobby Rammel, who reached base on a single. St. John's pulled even in the fourth inning, but Fort Recovery (10-10) struck again in the sixth.

Travis Hart and Clint Tobe each drew walks, and Toby Metzger was intentionally walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Hart to come home with the winning run.

Tobe, who had a single, tossed five innings for the win. He gave up the lone Blue Jay run on six hits.

Heitkamp earned the save as he allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.

Thien was the lone first-team All-MAC selection for the Indians, who play Crestview in district semifinal action Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. Rammel, a senior, and sophomore Greg Kahlig earned second-team honors for the baseball tea, and seniors Val Fortkamp and Ashley Grube were second-team selections for the Indian softball team.

Honorable mention went to Tobe and Heitkamp, both seniors, for the baseball team, and Heather Schmackers and Kinsey Wenning for the softball team.[[In-content Ad]]
