Thien gets 1st TD vs. Raiders

Frank Thien’s first career touchdown came against one of the best programs in college football.
The 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate scored the only points Saturday for NCAA Division III No. 24 Ohio Northern University in its 14-6 loss to second-ranked Mount Union.
Thien got the Polar Bears within one score when he caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Rue with 6:33 left in the fourth quarter. He also had a 6-yard reception on the drive.
The junior led ONU with four receptions for 39 yards against Mount Union, which has won 10 national championships since 1993.
With 11 receptions in the Polar Bears’ last two games, Thien is the team’s leading receiver this year with 13 catches for 119 yards.
Adam Gray
Jay County – 2010
Helped the University of St. Francis men’s golf team to victory Friday at the Ken Venturi Invitational hosted by Trine.
Gray joined teammate Nik Cross to shoot 70 in the tournament. The Cougars’ team total of 206 was good for a 12-stroke win at the event.
The sophomore also shot 77 to lead St. Francis to a runner-up finish Sept. 7 at the Calumet Crimson Wave Invitational.
Nicole Pottkotter
Ft. Recovery – 2010
Shared the lead in kills for the Ohio Northern University volleyball team Tuesday in a 25-10, 25-15, 25-23 destruction of Capital.
Pottkotter matched teammates Kristen Davidson and Cenzie Yoder with eight kills in the victory. She also had three digs.
The sophomore added five kills Saturday as ONU fell in three games to Mount Union.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Indiana University East men’s golf team, which placed 14th out of 20 teams in the Rosencrans Maurer Invitational hosted Saturday and Sunday by Wittenberg.Houck carded a 91 on the second day of competition at Windy Knoll Golf Club to finish with a 183 at the 36-hole event. The Red Wolves posted a team score of a 651.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Turned in a top-10 finish for the Red Wolves’ women’s cross country team Saturday as it ran to victory while hosting the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
Johnson crossed the finish line 19th overall and seventh on the IWU squad. She turned in a time of 19 minutes, 53.78 seconds.
Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Recorded shots on goal in each of the Bluffton University women’s soccer team in each of its last two games — losses to Earlham and NCAA Division III No. 13 Transylvania.
Moore took three shots, two of which were on goal, Tuesday in the Beavers’ 2-1 loss to Earlham. She had one shot on goal in the shutout loss to Transylvania.

Played her closest recent match for the Huntington University women’s tennis team in a 7-2 loss Saturday to Indiana University Southeast.
Adams and fellow Forester Kristen Lahman teamed at No. 2 doubles in an 8-3 loss to Emma LaDuke and Ashley Bunch. She dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 5 singles Oct. 29 to Nicole Beguin of Grace.[[In-content Ad]]
