Thien makes seven catches

The Polar Bears gave Frank Thien his first start, and he rewarded them with a career game.
Thien, a 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate, racked up seven receptions Saturday for the NCAA Division III No. 9 Ohio Northern University football team in a 27-7 loss to Muskingum.
The junior was the leading receiver for the Polar Bears, making three more grabs than anyone else on the team as he picked up 62 yards. His longest reception came in the opening quarter, when he caught a 15-yard pass from Tyler Rue on a second-and-17 play.
Thien’s nine receptions for 80 yards through three games are third-most on the team.

Ft. Recovery – 2010
Finished third in kills for the Ohio Northern University volleyball team Friday as it opened the Ohio Athletic Conference-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference challenge with a three-game victory over Hanover.
Pottkotter finished with eight kills and four digs for the host Polar Bears in their opening victory, and added one dig in their win 25-17, 25-20, 14-25, 25-16 win over Transylvania. She also had three kills and a dig in a tournament loss to Mount St. Joseph.
The sophomore totaled 10 digs and seven kills Tuesday to help ONU to a 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22 victory over Muskingum.
Miranda Denney
Jay County – 2007
Turned in the No. 4 score for the Indiana University East women’s golf team Friday at the Racer Invitational hosted by the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Denney posted a 111 for the Red Wolves to finish in 20th place at the event. IU-East was last out of five teams with a 432.
Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Indiana University East men’s golf team Tuesday at the Oakland City University Corydon Invitational.
Houck shot 93 at Old Capitol Golf Course to post the No. 4 score for the Red Wolves. IU-East finished with a team score of 342 to place fifth.
Maddie Moore
South Adams – 2009
Helped the Bluffton University women’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory Saturday over Mount St. Joseph.
Moore assisted on the second score of the game, a goal by Kourtney Lewis at the 23:33 mark of the first half.
She also had one of the nine shots on goal for the Beavers as they improved to 4-1-1 and won their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.
Amanda Johnson
Jay County – 2008
Ran for the NAIA No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team Saturday as it won the Hylander Invitational hosted by Houghton College.
Johnson crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 26 seconds for 19th place in the field of 153 runners. She was the No. 6 runner for the Wildcats.
Megan Taylor
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Manchester College women’s cross country team, which finished fifth out of 14 teams at Saturday’s Otterbein Invitational.
Taylor finished the 6K course in 28 minutes, 1 second. She was 105th out of 152 athletes.
Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Ran Saturday for the Bethel College men’s cross country team, which placed 19th out of 33 at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana College.
Heckard crossed the finish line in 29 minutes, 52 seconds. He placed 303rd overall.
Megan Adams
Jay County – 2008
Played for the Huntington University women’s tennis team Sept. 22 in an 8-0 loss to Spring Arbor.
Adams took on Kelli Cross at No. 5 singles, suffering a 6-0, 6-2 defeat. The loss dropped the Foresters to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-Central Conference.[[In-content Ad]]
