Think before you drink

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
The beautiful weather has arrived and families in the community are planning for the joyous activities of graduation. You and your family have worked very long, hard hours, completed thousands of assignments and now the day has come for a celebration.
I challenge everyone to make this time of year a memorable time of the year. Make this time of the year one that you will remember for a lifetime, for positive reasons.
Graduation parties are happening all across Jay County, and unfortunately alcohol and illegal substances are available at some gatherings.
You, a recent graduate or an attendee of the party, have the choice to think before you drink.
If you are caught drinking or possessing alcohol or any illegal substances, you could face criminal charges that may void any scholarships you have received; you might have your driving privileges suspended; or you might be detained in a secure juvenile detention center or the Jay County Jail.

I offer some information to parents. As you are planning for this wonderful occasion, be aware of the possibility of charges that may be directed towards you. Criminal charges and possibly civil suits could be filed if you are hosting a graduation party with alcohol or illegal substances and, in the worst-case scenario, a death.
To everyone, make this time of year an experience of a lifetime — for the right reasons.
Think before you drink.
