Thomas twins pick up awards (11/08/2008)
Collegiate Check-up
A pair of Jay County High School graduates recently earned all-conference honors in cross country.
Pennville twins Ian and Mitchell Thomas, both 2005 JCHS graduates, were among four members of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology squad who were named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's cross country team.
They earned the award by finishing in the top 12 to lead the Engineers to a runner-up finish at the Nov. 1 HCAC Championships.
Ian Thomas led Rose-Hulman with a time of 25-minutes, 56 seconds, which was his best of the season by nine seconds. He finished in third place overall.
Mitchell Thomas was just over a minute behind his brother in 12th place. His time was 26:59.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery - 2007
Was one of three Flyers to pick up double-digit kills Sunday as the University of Dayton women's volleyball team clobbered Rhode Island 25-18, 29-27, 25-16.
Gaerke finished with 11 kills in the victory over the Rams. She also had one assist and one ace.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2006
Got the start at center for the Hanover College football team Nov. 1 as it fell 31-28 in overtime to Defiance.
Vormohr had started at guard for most of the season, but moved to the middle of the line against the Yellow Jackets. He anchored a line that did not allow a sack while quarterback Nick Sharp tossed for 346 yards.[[In-content Ad]]
