Tidbits of good news
It’s been a good news week for those served by the Portland wastewater treatment plant.
First came word from Mayor Randy Geesaman that the city’s new rate analysis calls for a more modest, phased-in approach.
Then came the opening of bids by the Portland Board of Works that saw both an upgrade at the treatment plant and the separation of north side sewers come in below the earlier estimated cost.
Municipalities — and households — have been struggling these days, so it’s worth at least a round of applause when things cost less than expected.
And the more modest rate increase plan not only benefits residential customers but helps keep Portland competitive when it comes to attracting new business and industry. — J.R.
