VERSAILLES, Ohio — The offense just wasn’t there for Fort Recovery Friday night as it opened conference play with a shutout loss to Versailles.
The Indians (2-1, 0-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), who defeated Mississinawa Valley and Waynesfield-Goshen in their first two games, put together only 80 yards of total offense as they fell 34-0 on the road to the Tigers.
Versailles (3-0, 1-0 MAC), on the other hand, piled up 384 yards, most of it through the air as nine different receivers caught passes for the Tigers.
The rough night for Fort Recovery started right from the get-go as the first play from scrimmage was intercepted by the Tigers, who punched it in for their first score five plays later.
The Tigers scored again in the first and added another 14 points in the second to go into the half up 28-0. Versailles scored once more in the third after recovering a blocked punt. The point after was no good, leading to the final 34-0 margin.
Fort Recovery quarterbacks Jason Pottkotter and Kenny Wenning combined to go 4-of-22 through the air for 50 yards and two interceptions. Wenning led the Indian rushing attack with 21 yards on 16 carries.
Versailles totaled 316 passing yards, led by starting quarterback Damian Winner with a 19-of-37 effort for 281 yards and three TDs.[[In-content Ad]]
