Time for GOP change in Senate
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
In 2006 Democrats took control of both houses of Congress amid screams about 300 and 400 billion dollar deficits run up by big government Republicans.
Three years after promising change for the better, Democrat deficits hit 1600 billion dollars amid screams at the idea of cutting even one penny. During the last two years of the Bush administration, Democrats made all the rules, wrote all the laws, and like the Republicans before them ignored the subprime mortgage mess.
Obama, as a Democrat Senator, literally voted for the economy he inherited.
On the other side of the aisle, the Republicans proved they didn’t learn a thing by keeping the same lame leadership that got them kicked out of power.
In the House that leadership was reined in by Tea Party freshmen congressmen.
Now we need to change the arrogant mentality of the Senate Republicans who helped start the Great Recession by ignoring the subprime mess and running up record deficits.
Retiring Indiana’s own liberal Senator Lugar is our only chance to send a message to the big government Rockefeller Republicans in the Senate that we won’t tolerate business as usual again.
Vote for Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock on May 8.

Who took it?
To the editor:
I would like to address this letter to the person or persons who stole our water pump from Reitenour Cemetery, located west of Deerfield on Ind. 28 in Randolph County.
Did you steal it because it was an antique or because you needed something to sell for lack of money?
Did you also steal the torch you used to cut the pipe?
Whoever you are, you had to know where the pump was located as it wasn’t where you could see it from the highway or out in the open.
Did you take it because you thought we no longer used it? Well, you’re wrong!
It was there in case anyone needed water for any reason, we could provide it. That pump has probably been there for at least 75 years, maybe longer. I know it’s been there all my life.
If you are brave enough to display this in your yard, one of us may recognize it and the numbers on it, so be sure to file them off and repaint it, because the paint job was on our “to do list.” So to you the public, if you happen to see your neighbor display an old water pump, ask them where they found it. Maybe it’s ours, maybe not. On the other hand, why don’t you just return it where you stole it from? No questions will be asked. We just want it back.
Usually this time of year, I’m getting ready to ask all of you to donate money to the cemetery where you and your loved ones will be laid to rest. This is ongoing as most of them are non-profit and could use any amount. Please do this. We will now have to use some of ours to replace the pump.
To donate to Reitenour Cemetery, send any amount to: Becky Edwards, 7660 N. U.S. 27, Ridgeville, Indiana 47380.
Thank you.
