'Tons of tires' brought to Tox Away Day (10/25/05)

Jay County Commissioners

By By MARY ANN LEWIS-

“Tons and tons of tires” were brought to the Jay County Solid Waste District’s Tox-Away Day held recently at the Jay County Fairgrounds.

Those were the words of director of Kay Hayes Monday afternoon to the members of the waste district board.

Hayes said so much was collected she has not been able to come up with exact figures for the board. “I will have it next month,” she added.

There were 429 vehicles depositing items compared to 423 last year, she did note.

“It went very smoothly. I don’t think we had any problems,” Hayes said of the annual event.

In other business during the board’s brief meeting, members approved the transfer of $15,025 for operations. Hayes said the list of transfers was two pages long and urged to the board to approve the transfer request as a time-saving move. “This way we will avoid additional transfers before the end of the year,” she said.

Concerning financial matters, the district had expenses of $42,197.65 for the month, including a payment of $25,232.11 to NuGenesis, which was contracted by the district to accept and dispose of the items collected during Tox-Away Day.

After all claims have been paid the district has a checking account balance of $103,319.99.

Hayes also updated the board on several other ongoing projects, including the addition of a second Saturday drop-off recycling trailer in Redkey at Will’s Market.[[In-content Ad]]
