Top-ranked Coldwater rocks Indians (10/22/05)
FRHS football
It started bad and got worse.
Coming off their only win of the season Friday, the Fort Recovery Indians took on one of the best high school football teams in Ohio.
The result, while perhaps predictable, still wasn’t pleasant as the Indians fell 56-0.
Out-gunned all the way around, Fort Recovery faced a Coldwater team that averaged 10.7 yards of offense per play, racked up first downs at will, and scored as much as it wanted to.
The Division V No. 1 Cavaliers (9-0) rushed for an astounding 442 yards and passed for another 123, while holding the Indians to 106 on the ground and 37 yards through the air.
Coldwater jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring first on a Steve Borger pass to Ross Homan for 73 yards and a TD on its first drive. After stopping the Fort Recovery offense, the Cavaliers put the second touchdown on the board when Homan scored on an 11 yard run.
The third TD came on another Borger pass, this one to Brady Geier from 13 yards out. And the fourth of the first quarter came on a 31-yard run by Homan with 1:35 on the clock.
Two more touchdowns in the second quarter — one on a Tyler Kunk 10-yard run and the other on a 3-yard carry by Doug Kahlig — made it 42-0 at the half and time to throw in the towel.
Justin Bruns led Coldwater in rushing with 175 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
Both of those came in the second half, the first on a 2-yard run with 6:47 on the clock in the third. The second came with 11:52 on the clock in the fourth when Bruns broke loose for a 95-yard touchdown run. Coldwater’s Treveor Stromblad was good on each of his PAT kick attempts, while Kelvin Bruns made the final kick of the night.
Matt Tobe rushed for 52 yards on seven carries for Fort Recovery, while Michael Trobridge rushed for 42 yards on 13 carries.[[In-content Ad]]
