Top-ranked Flyers knock off Tribe

MARIA STEIN, Ohio - The Indians fought off the top team in the state in game three, but couldn't keep their winning streak alive.
The Fort Recovery High School's volleyball team's five-match winning streak ended Thursday with a 25-13, 25-22, 22-25, 25-12 loss to the host Division IV No. 1 Marion Local Flyers (21-0).
Emily May racked up 40 digs and five points for the Indians (12-10, 3-6 Midwest Athletic Conference). Nicole Pottkotter had 18 assists and five points, and Holly Brunswick finished with 14 kills and two blocks.
Olivia Thien notched a team-high 17 kills, Chelsey Leuthold totaled 24 digs and Alyssa Brackman had six points.
In the junior varsity match the Indians (12-6, 5-4 MAC) lost 25-18, 25-16 to Marion Local.
Ericka Lennartz had four kills, four digs and one block, and Kylie Kahlig added three kills and one block. Abby Backs came up with eight digs, Kayla Kahlig had eight assists and Nichole Kaiser scored six points.
Chelsea Pottkotter had eight digs, four assists and a block as the freshman team lost 25-6, 25-16 to fall to 12-7. Kelsey Fiely had five kills and two points, and Emily Link and Heather Vaughn each notched eight digs.
Middle school
The Indian eighth graders closed their season Thursday with a 25-13, 27-25 loss to the Minster Wildcats in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament. The seventh grade team also finished its year, falling 25-18, 25-20 to the St. Henry Redskins.
Morgan Dues and Ashley Homan each scored seven points for the eighth graders. Jackie Fullenkamp had five points.
In the seventh grade match Rachel Pugh led the Tribe (4-12) with seven points and four assists. Tori Lennartz totaled seven kills, and Caley Schoenherr, Cassidy Rammel and Haley Knapke each had three points.[[In-content Ad]]
