Town, village voters make selections (11/07/07)

Voters in Jay County towns, along with those in Geneva and Fort Recovery, went to the polls Tuesday and chose candidates for town and village councils, clerks, and, in Fort Recovery, members of the school board.

Pennville voters favored Krista Scholer as clerk-treasurer Tuesday, giving her a 106-46 victory over Glenda Clay.

Both candidates ran as independents.

In the race for the Pennville Town Council seat for the middle district, Rodne Penrod handily defeated Kathy Corwin by a vote of 96-58.

Ron Kreps was unopposed for the south district seat on the council. All three candidates ran as independents.

A crowded four-way race for Bryant clerk-treasurer saw Peggy Ann Smitley as the clear favorite.

Smitley received 47 percent of the vote.

Final totals showed Smitley with 40 votes, Tavia Boolman with 20, Kim Twigg with 13 and Ruth Davis with 12.

Seven independent candidates contested for three seats on the Bryant Town Council. Leo Kahn, Warren Boice and Jason Meinerding came away the winners.

Final totals showed Kahn with 56 votes, Boice with 50, Meinerding with 43, Scott Twigg with 31, James Spade with 26, Gregg Ellenberger with 21 and Jonathan Miller with 18.

In Salamonia, voters favored Charles "Stan" Keen, Karen Keen and Bruce Smith in a five-way race for three seats on the town council.

Final totals showed Charles Keen with 45 votes, Karen Keen with 41, Smith with 27, Perry Jones with 22, and Gale Ann Ross with 6.

In District 3, Republican Jim Timmons beat his Democrat counterpart Anthony J. Davidson by a count of 162 votes to 159. District 2 Councilman Mike Schwartz (R) won an unopposed race with 211 votes.

Fellow Republican Doug Milligan, also running unopposed, grabbed 234 votes.

In Fort Recovery, Steven E. Wendel, Jack Staugler and David Hull won seats on the school board in a seven-way race.

Wendel had 718 votes (21.9 percent), Staugler 694 (21.1 percent) and Hull 613 (18.7 percent).
