Training goes well
Jay County Commissioners
A county-funded training session for local government is expected to help local cities and towns develop plans for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Jay County Commissioner Milo Miller Jr. said this morning a Friday seminar led by a staffer from DLZ, a Midwest consulting firm, saw good participation from throughout the county.
Bryant was the only community unable to send someone to the seminar, Miller said.
“The law’s been in effect since 1992,” he said, noting that the federal government will be linking better ADA compliance to eligibility for grant dollars.
Jay County Community Developer Ami Huffman will be working with individual communities to develop ADA compliance plans.
The $5,000 cost of the seminar was paid by the county.
In other action this morning, commissioners approved payment of three claims to provide two new vehicles for the county surveyor’s crew. Payment of $22,986 to Moser Motors for a new Ford pick-up truck, another $15,600 to Moser Motors for a dump truck chassis, and $19,265 to W.A. Jones for a dump truck bed were approved unanimously.
The pick-up truck had been included in the surveyor’s budget, and an appropriation for the dump truck was approved by the Jay County Council last week.
Wind farm supporter Bob Lyons also spoke briefly with the commissioners, saying he believes NextEra Energy will begin work on the Bluff Point project sometime this year and finish in 2014.[[In-content Ad]]
