ST. MARYS, Ohio - For the second straight season, the Indians have opened 3-2. And again, both of those losses have come against Parkway.

The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team won its first two matches Saturday at the St. Marys Invitational before falling 25-17, 25-20 to the Parkway Panthers, who also beat the Tribe in Midwest Athletic Conference action Thursday. The Indians dominated their opening match 25-3, 25-9 over Bethel and rallied for a 21-25, 25-17, 25-13 triumph over the host Roughriders.

Senior Kelsey Wuebker got the day off to a good start for Fort Recovery as their first server against Bethel. She served 20 consecutive points, forcing Bethel to burn both timeouts, and staking the Indians to a 21-0 lead before finally committing a service error.

Wuebker finished the three-match set with 39 service points while also leading the team with 35 assists.

Emily May had seven digs in each match for a team-high of 21, and also followed Wuebker with 25 points. Kinsey Wenning pounded home 29 kills, 11 of which came in the victory over the Roughriders.

Anne Koesters totaled 15 kills and 9 blocks, Chelsey Leuthold had 16 digs and Nicole Pottkotter notched 12 kills.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery stayed even on the season, splitting a pair of matches Saturday to move to 2-2.

The squad opened with a 25-11, 25-21 victory over Russia, and then lost 25-19, 25-19 to Minster.

Sarah Knapke powered the Indians with 14 digs and 13 points in the two matches.

She had eight points in the win over Russia.

Kendra Brunswick totaled 10 digs and five blocks, and Lorraine Shier had nine points and eight kills. Shelby Brunswick also had eight kills to go along with four blocks, and Carly Staugler had 26 assists.

Freshman

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians dropped their opening game but still kept their undefeated start going Saturday with an 18-25, 25-22, 28-26 victory over the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders.

Kylie Kahlig and Kara Faller shared the team highs of eight points and two blocks for Fort Recovery (3-0). Kahlig also had two kills and two digs.

Kayla Kahlig put up 26 assists, Abby Backs totaled four digs and Ericka Lennartz had three kills.[[In-content Ad]]
