FRHS cross country
EATON, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's girls cross country team turned in another solid finish Saturday, placing fourth at the 12-team Eaton Invitational.
The Indians scored 117 points, finishing just five behind third-place Ansonia. Minster won the meet with 39 points, and Fort Loramie was second with 54.
Fort Recovery's boys were last in a 15-team field with 388 points, two behind 14th-place Botkins. Minster also finished first in the boys competition with 76 points while Russia was second with 85.
Mindy Vogel, a senior, led the Tribe girls as she came in on the heels of the last two in a string of four straight Minster runners. She finished ninth in 20-minutes, 26.34 seconds behind Maria Dalinghaus (seventh - 20:25.01) and Averie Bornhorst (eighth - 20:25.98), both of the champion Wildcats.
Tina Roessner turned in a top-15 effort as she was also on the heels of a Minster counterpart. She crossed the finish line in 20:49.14 for 14th place, less than a half second behind the Wildcats' Emily Freytag.
Alexis Sutter was the No. 3 runner for the Indians in 22:10, Sam Bihn finished 35th in 22:19 and Abby Huelskamp was right behind her in 22:21.
Ryan Heitkamp led Fort Recovery's all-freshman boys team in 55th with a time of 19:05. Caleb Heitkamp and Alan Vogel also finished under the 20-minute mark with Heitkamp 63rd in 19:25 and Vogel 68th with a time of 19:38.
Zach Guggenbiller was 108th in 22:54, and Aaron Will placed 109th in 23:03.
Also running for the FRHS girls were Abby Sudhoff (47th - 23:05) and Amber Heitkamp (49th - 23:06).
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery's girls finished eighth in a 10-team field with a score of 222. Kings Academy won with 32 points, and Minster was second with 47.
Casey Backs led all Tribe runners in 44th with a time of 23:50.52. Kelly Wendel placed 52nd in 24:25, and Claire Wendel was 57th at 24:41.
Joining them were Hilary Pottkotter (61st - 24:54), Alison Tobe (74th - 25:51) and Tami Link (95th - 29:46).
Middle school
The Tribe girls finished in the top half of a 19-team field, scoring 253 points for eighth place. Minster won with 29 points, and Kings Academy was a distant second with 83.
Fort Recovery's boys were 15th out of 19 teams with 349 points. Kings Academy took first with 115, and Springsboro was second in 125.
Nicole Heitkamp and Christen Wendel went back-to-back to lead the Indian girls, finishing in times of 13:58 and 13:59 for 32nd and 33rd respectively. Samantha Tobe was 42nd in 14:23, Mariah Koester finished 62nd with a time of 14:52, and Brenda Link was 116th at 17:19.
Nathan Fullenkamp turned in a solid 15th-place finish for the Fort Recovery boys as he finished 15th in 12:07. Derek Rammel placed 68th in 13:29, and Adam Pohl was 90th at 13:45.
