Tribe blasts Arcanum

ARCANUM, Ohio - The Indians had their six straight victory wrapped up by halftime.

There was little resistance Tuesday from the Arcanum Trojans, who managed just three points against the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team in the second quarter. The Tribe rolled to a 30-point lead at halftime on the way to its 78-28 win.

Fort Recovery (10-2) never trailed, and had a double digit just 4:13 into the game. It has not lost since falling 46-42 Jan. 19 at Jay County.

Kendra Brunswick scored 13 points in just 11 minutes for the Indians, who started the second quarter on a 13-0 run. Olivia Thien totaled 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench, and Kelly Nietfeld had 11 points, six boards and three steals.

Fort Recovery shot 68 percent (13-of-19) in the second half and 55 percent for the game. It also buried eight 3-pointers and had a 35-16 advantage on the glass.

The Tribe, which forced 28 turnovers and limited Arcanum to 20 percent shooting from the field, won easily despite playing without one of its senior leaders. Nicole Pottkotter, the team's leader in rebounds, assists, blocks and steals, sat out for the game because of a hamstring pull.

Junior Nicole Dilworth posted team highs of seven assists and five steals in the 50-point win. Alyssa Brackman added five assists.

Jessica Rauscher and Amanda Falknor each scored 11 points for Arcanum, which went 4-of-25 (16 percent) from the field in the second half. Shelby Anderson and Falknor each had five rebounds.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery shut out the Trojans in the opening quarter as it rolled to a 63-17 victory.

Chelsea Pottkotter scored 11 points in just seven minutes, hitting all three of her 3-point attempts, to lead the Indians (11-1). Ericka Lennartz added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Tribe, which was up 23-0 after the first seven minutes.

Arcanum shot just 21 percent for the game and committed 28 turnovers.[[In-content Ad]]
