Tribe drops 2 to Van Wert (04/10/06)

FORT RECOVERY — Four runs in the final inning thwarted the Tribe.
The Fort Recovery softball team looked primed to salvage a sweep, leading 7-4 heading into the final inning of game two against Van Wert. But the Cougars rallied for the one-run win in the top of the seventh for double-header sweep by scores of 11-6 and 8-7.
Kinsey Wenning took the game-two defeat, allowing eight runs — six earned — on eight hits. She walked three and struck out four.
Beth May was the losing pitcher in the opener as she gave up 11 runs — eight earned on 11 hits and 12 walks.
Lauren Wenning came up big at the plate as the Indians fell just short in the second game. She finished 3-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI and a stolen base.
Lori Osterholt also had three hits, Ciera Rammel double and drove in two runs and Jennifer link had two RBIs.
Rammel paced Fort Recovery (3-4) in the opener with a triple, three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. Renee Evers and Sandra Sudhoff each had two hits, and Kelsie Will drove in a pair of runs.
Junior varsity
VAN WERT, Ohio — The Indians split a double-header with Van Wert, winning the opener 13-5 and losing game two 10-4.
Kyla Metzger paced the win with two hits, four runs and six steals. Kelly Thien had three hits and three RBIs, and Kelly Sudhoff, Heidi Tobe and Kim Willmann each added two hits.
Tobe also earned the win as all five runs against her were unearned.
Carla Guggenbiller took the defeat in game two, giving up six hits and five walks. Joanna Snyder had an RBI single and scored a run.[[In-content Ad]]
