Tribe earns 1st MAC win (09/19/2008)

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio - Finally Thursday, the Indians broke though.

Sitting at 0-4 in the Midwest Athletic Conference and on a three-match skid, the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team came up with a 25-16, 18-25, 25-17, 26-24 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.

Emily May totaled 18 points and 18 digs for the Indians, who were the last team in the league to pick up an MAC victory. The had lost to Parkway, Minster, Versailles and Coldwater before knocking off New Knoxville (5-14, 1-4 MAC).

Nicole Pottkotter finished with 18 assists and 16 points, Kelsey Wuebker had 19 assists and 11 digs and Joanna Snyder added 13 kills and 12 digs. Kinsey Wenning recorded a team-best 14 kills, Anne Koesters had 11 blocks and Holly Brunswick finished with nine blocks.

The Indians, who will visit Divison IV No. 9 Lehman Catholic (7-6) Monday, are 6-6 overall.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery stumbled in the second game, but was still able to push its record above .500 with a 25-16, 20-25, 25-16 victory over the Rangers.

Carly Staugler totaled 20 assists and 16 points to lead the Indians (6-5, 2-3 MAC), and Olivia Thien had nine digs, eight kills and three blocks. Sarah Knapke finished with 10 points and nine digs, and Lauren Staugler added six kills.

Freshman

GREENVILLE, Ohio - The Indians nearly forced a third game, but fell short in a 25-13, 30-28 loss to the Greenville Green Wave.

Kara Faller had six digs, three points and two kills to lead the Indians (5-6). Kayla Kahlig had 15 assists, Erika Lennartz totaled seven digs and three points, Abby Backs scored five points and Hunter McAbee chipped in three points.[[In-content Ad]]
