Tribe earns a split
FRHS softball
VAN WERT, Ohio - For the second straight Saturday the Fort Recovery High School softball team dropped the front end of a double-header. But, again, it bounced back to earn a split.
After falling 4-3 in eight innings in the first game against the Van Wert Cougars, the Indians scored four times in the fifth inning of game two on the way to an 8-6 win.
Olivia Thien paced the Tribe (7-3) in its victory, going 3-for-4 with a triple. She scored two runs and had a pair of RBIs.
Kendra Brunswick added a triple, three RBIs and two runs, Carly Staugler had two hits and three runs and Shelby Brunswick totaled two hits and two RBIs.
Shelby Brunswick also picked up her first pitching win of the year, going 6 1/3 innings and striking out seven. She gave up nine hits and six walks.
Andi Sutter tossed the final two-thirds of an inning for the save.
Fort Recovery seconded all of its game-one runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Van Wert tied the game in the seventh and plated the winning run in the eighth.
Josie Guggenbiller and Thien each had two singles and a double in the defeat.
Junior varsity
The Indians struggled to score or slow down Van Wert, losing 15-2 in six innings and 18-1 in five innings.
Janelle Schwieterman went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run in the opening game. Brittany Sudhoff added two hits, and Taylor Guggenbiller had a triple, a run and an RBI.
Becca Tobe had two hits and a run in the second game. Brittany Sudhoff doubled and drove in a run.[[In-content Ad]]
