FORT RECOVERY — Any hopes the Fort Recovery Indians had of picking up their second win of the year and stopping a string of 1-9 seasons were dashed quickly.
St. Henry, racking up three quick scores in the first period and adding a total of four more touchdowns in the second and third, rolled to a 48-13 win over the Indians Friday night at Barrenbrugge Athletic Park.
The host Indians, who got on the board with a pair of Matt Tobe TDs in the fourth period, close the year once again with a 1-9 mark, the third consecutive season they’ve managed to win a single time.
Their lone victory came by a 20-2 score over the New Bremen Cardinals.
The Redskins, who got 100-plus yard rushing efforts from both Andy Puthoff (139) and Kyle Bruggeman (114) in Friday night’s game, put all the points they would need on the board in the first nine minutes.
Two of the scores were by Puthoff, first on a run of 45 yards and another from six yards, while Ryan Hartke of St. Henry pulled in a 41-yard touchdown pass from Doug Griesdorn in between the two Puthoff scores.
St. Henry, which had 396 yards in total offense to the Fort’s 159, ran back an interception for a TD in the second quarter and went up 48-0 with three more scores in the third.
Tobe scored from six yards and one yard in the fourth period to get Fort Recovery on the scoreboard. Tobe paced the Indians’ ground game with 56 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Toby Metzger completed 4-of-13 passes for 59 yards and was picked off twice.
Travis VanSkyock of Fort Recovery pulled in two passes for 34 yards.[[In-content Ad]]
