FRHS boys basketball

FORT RECOVERY - Scott Steineman had not made a 3-point shot all night. But he did when it counted.

Steineman's triple with one second remaining lifted his New Bremen Cardinals to a 40-39 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians.

He was 0-for-4 from long distance before burying the winning shot.

Steineman, who teamed with Scott Schnelle to score 35 of the Cardinals' 40 points, was responsible for his squad's final nine points. After New Bremen (10-7) fell behind 38-29 on a Tony Diller jumper with 3:40 to go, Schnelle hit a jumper and Steineman added two free throws and two field goals to cut the deficit to 38-37 with 1:07 to play.

The Cardinals got the ball back after a missed free throw by Clint Tobe, but turned it over. Toby Metzger split his foul shots with 11 seconds left to put the Tribe (9-7) up 39-37 before Steinemen nailed the buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

Steineman finished with 17 points, four assists and five steals, all team highs for New Bremen. He also had five rebounds.

Schnelle went 8-of-11 from the field for 18 points to go along with game highs of eight rebounds and four blocks.

All of Fort Recovery's points came from its starting five with Greg Kahlig and Tobe reaching double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Diller, Metzger and Bobby Rammel each added six.
