FORT RECOVERY - The Marion Local Flyers flattened Fort Recovery by rushing for nearly 350 yards as they marched their way to a 34-20 win over the host Indians.
The Flyers had their way on the ground as they rushed 58 times on the evening, crushing the Indians for 348 yards and five touchdowns. Alex Post and Niles Keller racked up 179 and 122 yards, respectively, for Marion Local.
The Flyers only threw the ball 10 times, making only two completions, although the passing game was irrelevant as they rushed for 6 yards per carry.
Fort Recovery (3-6, 2-5 Midwest Athletic Conference), conversely, relied heavily on the pass all night, as quarterback Greg Kahlig dropped back 47 times, throwing 22 completions for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Receiver Cody Fiely was Kahlig's main target, grabbing 11 catches for 148 yards and a score. Craig Tobe snagged six balls for 77 yards and the other score.
The Indians made good ground when they did rush, collecting 76 yards on only 10 carries, including a 9-yard scamper by Kahlig to the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Perry Hull had 53 yards on two carries - one of which was a 51-yard burst in the fourth quarter - and Brian Keller added 23 yard on three carries.
Marion Local (4-5, 2-5 MAC) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first and tacked on another score before the half to lead the Indians 21-0 going into halftime.
The Indians punched in their first score with 2:20 to go in the third as Kahlig found Tobe from 10 yards out. But the Flyers responded on their next possession, exploding for a 69-yard TD run.
Offensively, Fort Recovery was stalled by its inability to convert on third down as the Indians only picked up only 1-of-8 on third down. The Flyers controlled the game despite relatively equal overall yardage, using their running attack to control the ball for nearly 30 minutes.[[In-content Ad]]
