Tribe falls to Lehman Catholic (09/23/20008)

SIDNEY, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's volleyball team slipped back below .500 Monday with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 loss to the Division IV No. 9 Lehman Catholic Cavaliers.

Joanna Snyder paced the Indians, who are now 6-7, with eight digs, five points and three kills. Kinsey Wenning had six digs, six points and three blocks, Nicole Pottkotter had nine assists and six digs and Holly Brunswick totaled six kills and five points.

Kelsey Wuebker and Alyssa Brackman each had six digs, and Anne Koesters added three blocks.

Carly Staugler had 24 assists and eight points as the FRHS junior varsity team defeated the Cavaliers 25-14, 22-25, 26-24. Lorraine Shier racked up 13 kills, Kendra Brunswick scored 11 points and Sarah Knapke had 10 digs.

Kahligs tie for 17th

The boys golf team placed ninth out of 10 teams at Saturday's Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.

The Indians scored a 363, finishing ahead of New Knoxville (377). Minster was first by 12 strokes over St. John's with a 318.

Brady Kahlig and Jared Kahlig each shot 87 to lead the Tribe and finish in a five-way tie for 17th place.

Tommy Staugler followed with a 94, Curtis Schroer shot 95 and Travis Hart finished at 104.

Freshman spikers split

Abby Backs led the freshman volleyball team in both matches Saturday as it defeated Russia 25-15, 25-14 and lost 25-15, 25-27, 25-13 to Celina.

Backs powered the Indians (6-7) with 10 points and three digs in the victory. She also had eight digs and five points in the loss to Celina.

Kayla Kalhig added nine assists and three digs against Russia, and Lericka Lennartz had seven points and three digs. Katelyn Jutte, Olivia Schwieterman and Hunter McAbee each finished with two kills, and Kara Faller had two blocks.

Lennartz had five points and four digs in the loss, Kahlig put up 19 assists and Schwieterman and Gina Braun also scored five points apiece.

JV gridders roll

FORT RECOVERY - Shane Brunswick and Perry Hull were each responsible for two touchdowns Saturday as the junior varsity football team defeated the Covington Buccs 30-14.

Brunswick opened the scoring with a 30-yard TD pass to Ethan Schoenherr in the first quarter, and added a 71-yard TD pass to Hull in the second. Hull also scored on a 26-yard run in the opening quarter.

Kenny Wenning capped the scoring with a 13-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. The Indians came up with three two-point conversions - a run by Brunswick, a pass from Brunswick to Schoenheer and a pass from Wenning to Ryan Schoen.[[In-content Ad]]
