Tribe freshmen top Tigers (09/30/2008)
Fort Recovery roundup
FORT RECOVERY - Olivia Schwieterman paced the Fort Recovery High School freshman volleyball team Monday as it jumped back above .500.
The Indians defeated the Versailles Tigers 25-16, 25-19 to improve to 8-7 on the year.
Schwieterman had a team-high 10 assists and was second on the squad with six points. She also had one kill, one block and one dig.
Abby Backs totaled 10 points and three digs, and Gina Braun scored six points. Mikayla Westgerdes finished with three digs, Ericka Lennartz had two kills and Kara Faller added a pair of blocks.
JV football tops NB
NEW BREMEN, Ohio - The junior varsity football team pitched a shutout in the second half Saturday to beat the New Bremen Cardinals 26-12.
Perry Hull broke a halftime tie at 12 with a 40-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Shane Brunswick added a 3-yard TD run for the final margin.
Shane Brunswick hooked up with Aaron Vagedes for TDs passes of 50 and 20 yards in the first half. Brunswick also threw to Ryan Schoen for a two-point conversion.
JV spikers lose two
FORT RECOVERY - The Tribe fell short in both junior varsity volleyball matches Saturday. FRHS lost 25-23, 25-22 to Coldwater and 25-20, 25-16 against Anna.
Lorraine Shier paced the Indians with 11 kills, nine points and two blocks in the two matches. Olivia Thien had eight kills and eight points, and Carly Staugler finished with 30 assists.
MS runner take 2nd
BOTKINS, Ohio - Nathan Fullenkamp and Josh Pohl led the middle school boys cross country team to a runner-up finish at Saturday's Botkins Invitational.
The Tribe boys were second out of 13 teams while the girls finished sixth out of 13.
Fullenkamp and Pohl posted nearly identical times to take second and third place in the boys race. Fullenkamp finished in 11-minutes, 44.1 seconds, and Pohl was just one tenth behind him.
Derek Sutter finished 12th in 12:17, following by Marshall Hull (38th - 13:15) and Calvin Kaiser (41st - 13:18).
Abby May turned in the lone top-20 finish for the girls team in fifth place at 13:17. Joining her were Samantha Tobe (22nd - 14:06), Jessica Vogel (29th - 14:30), Elle Sutter (49th - 15:18) and Emily Kahlig (86th - 17:23).
8th grade rallies
UNION CITY, Ohio - After dropping the first game, the eighth grade volleyball team bounced back for a 15-25, 25-16, 25-20 win Saturday over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The seventh grade team lost 25-12, 25-22.
Chelsea Pottkotter powered the eighth graders (8-3) with eight kills, three assists, two blocks and one ace. Betsy Wendel had 14 points, Amy Link notched 10 kills and Janelle Schwieterman put up six assists.
Jackie Fullenkamp had 11 points and one kill as the seventh grade squad slipped to 0-11.
Hannah Kaup scored five points, and Becky Brockman finished with one kill and one dig.[[In-content Ad]]
