Six teams in the New Bremen tournament will have to win two games to earn a sectional title. The Indians will only have to win one.
Fort Recovery High School's girls basketball team will have an opening round bye for the Division IV tournament at New Bremen and will play for a sectional championship Saturday, Feb. 28, at 6:15 p.m.
The opening game of the tournament will be Tuesday, Feb. 24, with New Knoxville (7-8) taking on Minster (10-5). The winner of that game will play in the sectional championship against Fort Recovery.
Two other semifinal games will be played Wednesday, Feb. 25. Marion Local (6-9) will battle Waynesfield-Goshen at 6:15 p.m. with No. 3 New Bremen (15-1) versus Lima Perry to follow. The winners of those games will play in the second sectional title game Feb. 28 at 8 p.m.
The Indians are 2-1 against sectional competition thus far this season. They handed New Bremen its only loss of the year 51-43 Dec. 11 and also defeated New Knoxville 47-42. The Tribe lost to Minster, 31-28.
Fort Recovery will play Marion Local Feb. 12, but does not play Waynesfield-Goshen or Lima Perry during the regular-season.
Tribe splits pair
FORT RECOVERY - With a dominant third quarter the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team cruised to a 49-29 victory Monday over Coldwater. The eighth grade Indians lost 46-23.
Fort Recovery (8-2) led by just five at halftime of the seventh grade game, but proceeded to outscore the Cavaliers 17-2 in the third quarter. Elijah Kahlig led the victory with 17 points, and Josh Pohl added 10.
Connor Rammel had seven points for the eighth graders (3-7), who gave up 18 third-quarter points. Trent Kaiser followed with six points.[[In-content Ad]]
