Tribe knocks off Fort Loramie

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio - The Indians' shooting struggles carried over into Monday's opening half. After the intermission they found their touch.

Fort Recovery High School's girls basketball team shot 59 percent in the second half as they pulled away from the Fort Loramie Redskins for a 59-48 victory.

The Indians trailed 16-8 after the first quarter, but closed to within two points and the half and then caught fire after the break. They shot 13-of-22 in the second half and put up 22 points in the fourth quarter.

FRHS put together a 15-3 run bridging the third and fourth quarters with Chelsea Leuthold, Emily May and Nicole Dilworth scoring all the points in the stretch.

Leuthold broke the 20-point barrier for the second time in four games, shooting 7-of-9 (78 percent) from the field and 8-for-8 at the foul line for 22 points. She turned in a double-double with 10 rebounds.

May had her best scoring effort of the season with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Nicole Pottkotter totaled eight points and four rebounds, and Kendra Brunswick had six rebounds and two steals.

Janel Olberding was the only Redskins player in double figures as she scored 16 points. Kara Gasson hit all of her seven foul shots and scored nine points, but shot just 1-of-8 from the field.

Tessa Benanzer also had nine points as Fort Loramie shot just 35 percent for the game. Claire Ruhenkamp and Brooke Turner each grabbed six boards.

Junior varsity

The Redskins handed Fort Recovery a 48-45 defeat to put an end to its 32-game winning streak.

Kylie Kahlig shot 7-of-13 and finished with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals in the defeat. Kelly Nietfeld added 11 points and six boards for the Indians (6-1).

Reggie Brandewie had 12 points and four rebounds for Fort Loramie, which trailed by one at halftime but outscored FRHS 16-8 in the third quarter. Janelle Gephart had eight points and six rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
