Tribe rolls to 10-1

PITSBURG, Ohio - A night after their biggest win of the season, the Indians still had plenty of gas left in the tank.

After trailing early, the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team used a 15-0 run to take control Saturday. It followed up its overtime victory Friday over Division III No. 4 Coldwater with a 60-49 win over the host Franklin Monroe Jets.

FRHS (10-1) trailed 12-9 five minutes into the game, but held the Jets scoreless for the next nine minutes. It took a one-point lead at the quarter break and then scored the first 11 points of the second period.

Cody Fiely scored seven of the Tribe's 15 points during the run, and the visitors stayed ahead by double digits the rest of the way.

Greg Kahlig led the Indians with 26 points as he continued his chase for the team's all-time scoring record. He shot 15-of-17 from the free throw line and also had 18 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.

With 49 points in Fort Recovery's two games this weekend, Kahlig now has 1,390 for his career. He is within 29 points of 1969 graduate Ken Heiby's school record of 1,418.

Fiely also had a double-double, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Fort Recovery outscored the Jets 26-13 at the foul line and held them to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

Tyler Schrodi paced Franklin Monroe with 16 points. Kyle Detling had 11 points, and Nate Feitshans totaled 10 points and nine rebounds. Van Spitler also had nine boards.

Junior varsity

Jared Kahlig racked up 20 points to lead Fort Recovery to a 65-36 win over the Jets.

Kahlig shot 8-of-8 from the foul line and 5-of-9 from the field for the Tribe, which led 26-13 at halftime and poured in 25 third-quarter points. Shane Brunswick added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Ryan Link scored 10 points.

Rick Thompson had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead Franklin Monroe.

Middle school

ARCANUM, Ohio - The eighth grade Indians improved to 6-2 on the year with a 52-29 victory over the Arcanum Trojans. The seventh graders lost, 26-25.

Elijah Kahlig scored 11 points to pace the Fort Recovery eighth grade team, which had 10 players score in the game. Kent Retz added seven points, and Josh Pohl scored six.

Cole Wendel finished with six points to lead the Tribe seventh graders (1-7). Evan Schoen and Mitch Stammen each added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
