FORT RECOVERY - The Indians closed out their home season in style.

Fort Recovery's boys basketball team scored the opening seven points Saturday and never trailed in a 70-43 victory over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The Indians play their final two games on the road before heading to the sectional tournament at Coldwater March 2.

The Blackhawks (11-8) repeatedly closed the gap on the Tribe, pulling back to within two in the first quarter. Fort Recovery (10-8) pushed its leads to double digits, only to have Mississinawa Valley get back within six at halftime.

But when the Indians pulled away in the second half, they never looked back. They finished the third period on a 9-0 run, and proceeded to outscore the Blackhawks 26-5 after the break for the blowout win.

Fort Recovery, which shot 57 percent for the game, held the Blackhawks to 2-of-17 (12 percent) in the second half after giving up 71 percent shooting in the first.

Clint Tobe led four Indians in double figures, shooting 10-of-13 for 22 points. Senior Tony Diller followed with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the final home game of his career.

Greg Kahlig added 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Toby Metzger went 5-of-10 for 10 points. Metzger also had nine assists, seven steals and five rebounds. Diller finished with six steals, and Tobe had six rebounds.

Ryan Dickey was the lone Blackhawk in double figures as he scored 18 points. He also had five rebounds.

Levi Wicker added eight points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Junior varsity

The Indians dominated throughout for a 52-26 victory over Mississinawa Valley.

Fort Recovery had a 17-9 lead after the opening period and pushed ahead by 14 at the half. It limited the Blackhawks to single digits in every quarter, including just three points in the fourth.

Curt Heitkamp powered the Tribe with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Josh Wendel had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Wes Kahlig also scored 11 points, and Brent Faller totaled nine points and four assists.

Darick Hiatt topped Mississinawa Valley in scoring with nine points and had eight rebounds. Colton Cox added seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
