VERSAILLES, Ohio — Number eight looked great for the Indians.
Fort Recovery remained undefeated Friday night, knocking off the Versailles Tigers in convincing fashion — 53-37.
The Indians (8-0) hit better than 44 percent of their shots from the field, with Wade Gelhaus leading the way with 17 points. Ryan Schoen scored 15, Jared Kahlig 14 and Elijah Kahlig 7.
Meanwhile strong defense limited Versailles (3-3) to 25.5 percent shooting from the field. Zach Niekamp was the sole Versailles player in double digits with 11 points.
Fort Recovery jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back. It was 12-4 in favor of the Indians at the end of the first quarter. But Versailles battled back in the second, outscoring Fort Recovery 12-9 to make it 21-16 at the half.
The game reverted to form in the third, with Fort Recovery scoring 14 to 4 for Versailles. That made it 35-20, giving the Indians a lead that could not be overcome in the final quarter.
Fort Recovery out-rebounded Versailles 36- 24 and outscored the Tigers 19-4 at the foul line.
In the JV contest, it was Versailles coming out on top 46-30. Chad Schroer scored nine points to lead the Indians.[[In-content Ad]]
