Tribe slams 'Skins (01/19/07)

FRHS girls basketball

FORT RECOVERY - The Redskins ran into Fort Recovery at the wrong time.

The Indians, coming off of back-to-back defeats, were looking to take out some frustration Thursday. The third-ranked girls basketball team in Division IV did so on the visiting St. Henry squad, racking up 74 points in the first three quarters of an 87-19 victory.

Gail Hartings of the Redskins scored the first two points of the game on a couple of free throws, but Fort Recovery posted the next 17 in a row and never slowed down in its biggest win of the season. The 68-point victory was the team's fourth 40-point win and eighth of 19 or more this year as it improved to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Tribe was up by 21 after the opening quarter and 39 at halftime as it held St. Henry to single digits in every quarter.

Holly Stein led a group of four Indians in double figures as she went 9-of-11 from the foul line and scored 18 points. Tiff Gaerke was right behind Stein, going 6-of-10 from the field for 17 points.

They each finished with a double-double as Stein grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and Gaerke had 11. The duo also came up with five steals apiece.

Joanna Snyder added 14 points, and Vicki Roessner matched Gaerke at 6-of-10 shooting for 13 points. Roessner and Sara Fortkamp each dished out four assists.

Kate Rutschilling's eight points were the best for St. Henry, which had just 15 rebounds as a team. Hartings had four points and three rebounds.

Becky Dirksen racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Redskins. Carla Pottkotter added eight points, and Emily Post grabbed nine rebounds.

Emily May finished with nine points and 12 steals to lead Fort Recovery. Nicole Pottkotter had eight points and seven rebounds, and Kinsey Wenning grabbed six boards.[[In-content Ad]]
