Tribe softball defeats Flyers (04/28/06)
FRHS baseball/softball
Hits were hard to come by for both Fort Recovery groups, but the Indian softball team managed just enough as it topped the Marion Local Flyers 2-1 Thursday. The Tribe baseball team was limited to two hits in a 4-1 defeat.
Jennifer Link led the softball team, which took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and traded runs with the host Flyers in the sixth. She had the lone extra-base hit of the game — an RBI triple.
Val Fortkamp added a single, a stolen base and a run, and Kelsie Will had an RBI single. Beth May scored the other run for the Indians (7-12), who evened their Midwest Athletic Conference record at 2-2.
Kinsey Wenning went the distance, tossing a three-hitter. She struck out three and walked three.
Fort Recovery’s baseball team (8-8, 1-4 MAC) stayed with Marion Local for four scoreless innings before the Flyers scored three times in the top of the fifth. They added a run in the bottom of the sixth, and the Tribe got its lone tally in the bottom of the seventh.
Clint Tobe took the defeat, but all four runs against him were unearned as the Indians committed five errors. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Chris Galdeen had both of Fort Recovery’s hits and scored its only run.
