FORT RECOVERY, Ohio - Friday the 13th showed no ill effects for the Indians.
They made the evening their own, sweeping the victories as hosts of the Fort Recovery Invitational.
The Tribe girls scored a dominating win, nearly doubling the second-place squad with 110 points. National Trail was the runner-up with 58 followed by Fairlawn (49) and Bradford (27).
Fort Recovery's boys had a stiffer challenge, but were up to the task with a winning total of 83.5 points. National Trail was again second at 75.5 with Fairlawn (50) third and Bradford (40) fourth.
Holly Stein and Mindy Vogel, the team's pair of 2006 state qualifiers, led the way with two individual victories apiece.
Stein, a senior, owned the throwing events, with tosses of 35 feet, 4 inches in the shot put and 108 feet in the discus. Anne Koesters was second in the shot put and third in the discus, and Jessica Link was the discus runner-up.
Vogel faced a stiff challenge from a teammate in the 1,600 run, finishing in 5-minutes, 58 seconds, just 1.6 seconds ahead of Tina Roessner. Sam Bihn followed in third place.
The 800 run was not nearly as close, with Vogel winning by more than 20 seconds in 2:32.2.
Matt Vagedes powered the boys team as he won the pole vault and contributed to both relay victories.
The school record holder in the event, Vagedes had a pole vault of 10 feet to take first place. He teamed with Perry Hull, Matt Braun and Michael Trobridge for the 4x100-meter relay win in 48.4, and joined Braun, Shane Stein and Eric Lamm to take the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.2.
Bihn nabbed first place in the 3,200 meter run for the FRHS girls in 13:53.7. Other victories were turned in by Emily May (200 dash - 30.2), Beth Muhlenkamp (high jump - 4 feet, 8 inches) and Rachel Tobe (pole vault - 7 feet).
Vogel, Roessner, Bihn and Amber Heitkamp teamed for a time of 10:56.70 to win the 4x800 relay.
Trobridge took the 200 dash for the Tribe boys in 24.6. Also adding wins were Wes Kahlig (800 run - 2:14.8), Adam Steinbrunner (3,200 run - 11:18.5) and Shane Stein (high jump - 5 feet, 6 inches).[[In-content Ad]]
