MARIA STEIN, Ohio - The Indians used a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter to take control Thursday. It didn't come from the usual suspects.
Kinsey Wenning and Rachel Tobe keyed the Fort Recovery rally to help lift the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team to a 62-56 win over the host Marion Local Flyers.
Fort Recovery trailed 46-42 with 4:19 to play before Wenning and Tobe, who average just 4.3 points per game combined, went to work.
Wenning buried a 3-pointer just 11 seconds after Katrina Brand's put-back gave the Flyers a two-point lead. After a 3-point play by Chelsea Leuthold, Tobe hit another triple to extend the Tribe lead to 53-48 with three minutes left.
Wenning added another 3-pointer 20 seconds later, and Tobe's hoop with 1:08 remaining pushed the Fort Recovery lead to 10 points. Marion Local closed to within four points twice in the final minute, but Nicole Dilworth went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the win.
Wenning racked up a team-high 13 points, including a 3-of-3 effort from 3-point range, to lead the Indians. She also shared the game high with seven rebounds.
Joanna Snyder added 10 points and four rebounds, Nicole Pottkotter scored nine points and all of Tobe's five points came during the fourth-quarter run.
Fort Recovery is now 15-3 overall and locked in a three-way tie for the Midwest Athletic Conference lead. The Indians, who were 14th in this week's Division IV voting by The Associated Press, No. 3 New Bremen and No. 6 St. John's are all 7-1 in the MAC.
Brand shot 7-of-8 from the field as she totaled 16 points and seven rebounds to pace Marion Local (7-10, 3-5 MAC). Margaret Wuebker had 13 points, five boards and three assists, and Alyssa Winner scored 11 points.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery ran its record to 17-0 with a 37-28 victory over the Flyers.
Holly Brunswick scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to power the Indians. Kelly Nietfeld added seven points.
Megan Seitz had 15 points and seven rebounds for Marion Local.
