Tribe track trumps Parkway, Crestview (03/28/07)

CONVOY, Ohio - Fort Recovery's boys track team started strong while the girls picked up where they left off Saturday.
Both teams defeated Parkway and Crestview Tuesday, with the boys team eking out a win with 67.5 points. Parkway was a close second with 64.5, and the host Knights were third with 33.
The Indian girls, coming off a solid fourth-place finish Saturday in Versailles' Lady Tiger Classique, were dominant, more than doubling the two other teams with 87 points. Parkway was second with 43, just three ahead of Crestview.
Matt Vagedes keyed the victory for the boys team with a pair of individual victories, both in the field events.
The school record holder in the pole vault cleared the bar easily at 7 feet, 6 inches, leading a sweep of the event in front of teammates Ethan Schoenherr and Tyler May.
Vagedes added a first-place finish in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches, with teammates Shane Stein in second.
Stein and Vagedes also teamed with Matt Braun and Eric Lamm to win the 4x400 -meter relay in 3-minutes, 33.7 seconds.
John Westgerdes gave Fort Recovery its only other individual win. He tossed the shot put 38 feet, 7 inches to win the event by nearly three feet.
The Indians also picked up a victory in the 4x800 relay with Lamm, Stein, Wes Kahlig and Adam Steinbrunner finishing in 9:35.
Holly Stein followed up her double win at Versailles by dominating the throwing events again Tuesday.
The Tribe's only senior outdistanced the field by more than 15 feet in the discus with a winning effort of 109 feet, 31/2 inches. Teammates Anne Koesters, Jessica Link and Lauren Day followed in second, third and fourth places.
Stein and Koesters also went one-two in the shot put with throws of 34 feet, 101/2 inches and 30 feet, 5 inches respectively.
Junior Mindy Vogel and sophomore Tina Roessner also turned in a pair of victories for the Indians.
Vogel led a one-two finish in the 400 dash, finishing in 1:04.57 with freshman teammate Emily May in second place. Vogel crossed the line in 2:34 to win the 800 run.
Roessner and Sam Bihn cruised to a one-two finish in the 3,200 run, with Roessner winning in 13:13. She also took first in the 1,600 run by more than 40 seconds at 6:00.1.
Freshman Beth Muhlenkamp added two inches from her effort at Versailles to take first place in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches. Rachel Tobe followed in second.
