Tribe wins 1st under Pohlman (09/12/06)

PITSBURG, Ohio - The Indians' fresh start got off on the right foot Monday.

Fort Recovery's volleyball team, playing its first match under coach Kim Pohlman, clobbered the Franklin Monroe Jets 25-15, 25-9, 25-11. Pohlman took over the team after Brad Smith resigned Friday after just six matches.

Tiff Gaerke paced the Indians, who improved to 6-2, with team highs of 23 kills and three blocks. She also had two digs and one assist.

Abby Niekamp finished with 30 assists and 14 points, and Lauren Wenning added eight kills and three blocks. Vicki Roessner had eight digs, and Brittany Brackman totaled five digs.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery picked up its second win, taking a hard-fought 25-14, 25-27, 25-21 victory over the Jets.

Annie Koesters led the Indians (2-3) at the net with eight kills and two blocks. LeAnne Tobin had a team-high 11 points, and Rachel Tobe totaled five digs.

Beth May finished with 10 points and three digs, and Heather Schmackers also had 10 points. Kelsey Wuebker had seven assists and six kills, and Nicole Pottkotter notched seven assists and three digs.

Freshman/junior high

The Fort Recovery freshman team rolled to victory, defeating the Jackson Center Tigers 25-10, 25-15. The Indians lost both junior varsity matches to the Celina Bulldogs, falling 25-16, 26-24 in eighth grade action and 25-17, 23-25, 25-13 in the seventh grade match.[[In-content Ad]]
