Tribe's Gaerke named first team all-state (11/08/06)

Tiff Gaerke added a final piece of hardware for her high school volleyball career this week.

Gaerke, a Fort Recovery senior, was named to the Division IV All-Ohio first team by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association. She was one of eight athletes to earn the honor, three of which came from the Midwest Athletic Conference.

The middle hitter, who will play at the University of Dayton next year, adds the all-state award to her first-team all-district and All-MAC honors. She was also named MAC Player of the Year, the first in school history to win the award in volleyball.

Gaerke was a third-team all-state selection as a sophomore and second-team all-state for her junior season. She earned first-team All-MAC and all-district honors in each of her final three years.

Fort Recovery also held its fall awards ceremony Wednesday, announcing athletes who were selected to the MAC All-Academic Team.

The Indian volleyball team led the way with seven athletes earning the All-MAC honor, including seniors Brittany Brackman, Abby Niekamp, Vicki Roessner and Lauren Wenning. Also honored from the volleyball team were junior Sarah Braun and sophomores Joanna Snyder and Kinsey Wenning.

Sam Bihn, Tina Roessner, Holly Stein and Mindy Vogel picked up the academic award for the girls cross country team. Winning for the football team were Tony Diller, Wes Kahlig and Ben Tobe, and for the boys golf team were Aaron Kahlig and David Schmitt.

The award is for sophomores, juniors and seniors who earn a varsity letter and carry at least a 3.3 grade point average.[[In-content Ad]]
