Trying to regain position (01/31/06)
A former Jay County Council member who lost out in the 2004 election is going to try to get back on the council.
Adding his name to primary election candidates, Andy Schemenaur Jr., 572 South 600 East, Portland, a Democrat, filed Monday in the office of Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon.
He will be seeking nomination for the seat as a representative of Council District 4 that includes Jefferson, Pike, Wayne 4, 5, and 6, Madison and Noble townships. That seat is currently held by Republican George Meehan.
Schemenaur formerly held an at-large seat on the council and was beaten out in the 2004 election by Marilyn Coleman, Judy LeMaster, and Jim Zimmerman.
Others filing Monday were:
•Malisa Haggard, 7134 West 400 North, Pennville, Republican, Penn Township Trustee
•Robert W. Bailey, 1355 South 600 West, Portland, Democrat, Greene Township Advisory Board
•Patty Starr, 8274 South 600 East, Portland, Republican, Madison Township Advisory Board
•Carey A. Brunswick, 5298 East 400 North, Portland, Democrat, state convention delegate.
