Unite supply efforts
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
United Way of Jay County is proud to inform you that for the 2013-14 school term we were able to provide school and hygiene supplies for 255 students in Jay School Corporation and Jay County Christian Academy.
This was the first year for the United Way to fund this project, and as we were getting close to distributing these supplies to the schools, we found many other businesses, churches and organizations were providing the same supplies.
United Way plans to make this an annual project for our county. So that these supplies are not duplicated we would like to join hands with as many organizations as possible to provide the supplies that are needed.
Upon researching this project we met with Jay Schools superintendent Tim Long and all principals in the corporation to get their thoughts, opinions and feedback as to what is needed by the students. The need we heard was staggering and heartbreaking. Items mentioned were, to name a few, pencils, paper, book bags, shoes, socks and undergarments. The list was long and didn’t vary much from school to school.
United Way’s goal is to supply the items that are truly needed by the students. With that being said, we would like to invite you to join us to help this project grow and to ensure each student’s needs are met.
If you would like to assist us in our endeavor to expand and join hands countywide, please contact us at [email protected] or (260) 726-7010.
Thank you in advance for your support as we continue to attempt to live united.
Sincerely,
Jane Ann Runyon and the Board of Directors
