Upset by anonymous letter (5/9/03)

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

I am writing to thank you for including the letter that I sent to The Commercial Review, dated April 17. I have heard several positive comments made in regards to that letter.

However, I have one complaint to register, and that is towards the coward who sent me a nasty letter and didn’t have the guts to sign it.

First, whoever you are, it is too bad you hide in the shadows to complain. You did not have the decency to put your name or address on the letter sent to me.

As I read through your letter several times I did not see anything that tied into the point that I was making.

So I would challenge you to go back and re-read the entire letter, not just the subheading and my name.

Secondly, the whole point to my letter was to show better support locally for our military. The one way would be to include more pictures of yellow ribbons and flags in our communities, instead of counting on AP to send us pictures. That is the limited coverage that I refer to.

Perhaps you are a past member of the military, and nobody has thanked you for fighting for the freedom of this great country we live in.

Maybe you are bitter about that and if that is the case, then let me be the first to say, thank you.

If you have not served in our Armed Forces, then you have no room to complain about those of us in the community who happen to truly care about the individuals in the military, myself included. Those individuals are family, friends and neighbors that we live with and around. That does not make me a “war-monger.”

Finally, if by chance you do read this, and you want to complain, then be a brave American and voice your opinion as I did. It is obvious that you read the paper. I did not hide behind my pen, an unaddressed envelope and an unsigned letter. I gave my name. So who are you, and what is your excuse?

I am thankful to be an American and proud of our military. Thank you to all of our veterans and those currently serving.

Sincerely,

Shirley L. Gruss
