U.S. will win the gold

Rays of Insight

The Jay County community must be focused on the fair this week, because questions for the monthly column were slim.
Many of the late entries involved the Summer Olympics, which officially begin with opening ceremonies on Friday. So today it’s an Olympic theme.

What's your prediction for the USA women's gymnastic team in London?
—Jenae Horn, Bryant

Gold.
The 2012 team is considered to be the best the United States has fielded since the 1996 squad that won the gold in Atlanta.
Gabby Douglas, who won the the U.S. Olympic Trials to earn the only guaranteed spot on the team, leads the group along with Jordyn Wieber, who won the all-around crown at the 2011 World Championships.
The rest of the squad is made up of McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman, who were part of the 2011 squad that won the team title at the 2011 World Championships, and 15-year-old two-time national champion Kyla Ross.

Which country will lead the medal count in the Olympics this summer?
—Stephanie Arnold, Portland

For anyone who may not be aware, Stephanie competed in the Olympics in archery for the 2004 games in Athens.
As for her question, I’ll say the U.S. leads the overall medal count. However, China is not going to be easy to beat.

Will Michael Phelps win seven medals? If so, will they all be gold?
—Jenae Horn, Bryant
(Jenae is a big fan of the Olympics.)

Phelps may win seven medals, but it’s doubtful that they will all be gold. He’s competing in seven events, and in two of them he has to deal with with fellow American Ryan Lochte.
The good thing is that the U.S. has the two most dominant swimmers in the pool.[[In-content Ad]]
