U.W. campaign gives thanks (01/02/2009)
Letter to the Editor
To the editor:
Wow!
That one word sums up the 2008 United Way of Jay County campaign.
Thank you to all participants in the United Way campaign. It was a huge success!
In spite of the difficult economic environment, we received pledges and contributions of $207,222.63, exceeding our goal of $205,000. . The money raised will benefit Jay County citizens through the services of our 19 member agencies and other not-for-profit agencies who will receive special grants throughout 2009. Citizens of Jay County - take a bow!
We would like to thank and congratulate our campaign cabinet team. These are the persons who dedicated the last 12 weeks to soliciting industries, small businesses, school corporation employees, retirees and students, individuals and other non-profit organizations throughout Jay County. They are: Commerce/Professional - Don Gillespie and Tracy Muhlenkamp; Industry - Becky Hahn and Carl Ronald; Small Business - Cindy Denney and Emily Roberts; Direct Mail - Deb Tipton; Agriculture - Carl Walker; Service Organizations - Rogers and Janice Durham; Education - Dr. Tim Long and Heather Hedges; Government - Chief Matt Aker and Todd Penrod; and Health - Joe Johnston and Diana Alig.
These persons recruited many other volunteers to help them. We would like to thank them as well. Thanks also to Jean Lutz, our Communications chairperson and Leadership Giving chairpersons - John and Diane Coldren.
Along with the excellent work of the campaign cabinet, our success was also due to this community's media outlets: The Commercial Review and WPGW/J Country 101.
The Commercial Review promoted the United Way campaign from start to finish with insert wrappers and WPGW dedicated radio time for announcing Small Business Blitz participants on October 26 and hosted the first-ever United Way Radio Day on December 16. A special thank you to both; your dedication and commitment to the Jay County community is truly appreciated.
Last but not least, we would like to thank Ginnette Tavzel, the United Way executive director, for her hard work.
All of these things contributed to this year's campaign success.
Thank you again and continue to LIVE UNITED.
