Vagedes wins pole vault (05/12/08)
FRHS track
COLDWATER - Matt Vagedes turned in the lone win for the Fort Recovery High School track teams at Friday's Mercer County Knights of Columbus Invitational.
Both Indian teams finished last out of six teams, with the girls totaling 34 points and boys scoring just 17.5. The Celina Bulldogs won both titles with 185 and 188.5 points respectively.
Vagedes won his title in the pole vault, in which he finished third in the state last season. The senior cleared the bar at 13 feet, 6 inches.
Fort Recovery cracked the top three in just two other events. Tina Roessner was third in the 3,200 run with a time of 12-minutes, 26.1 seconds, and Holly Brunswick finished third in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
Junior high
Aaron Vagedes won three events, scoring almost all of the 38 points for the FRMS boys team as it finished last of six teams. The Indian girls were victorious in two events - including two from Kylie Kahlig - and finished third with 73 points.
Celina won the girls competition easily with 200.5 points, and Coldwater took the boys title at 149.
Vagedes crushed the rest of the boys field in his three events, with his closest win coming by more than a half second in the 200-meter dash in 26.04.
He took the 400 dash by nearly four seconds in 55.99, and was first in the high jump by four inches at 5 feet, 4 inches.
Kahlig narrowly missed bringing home three titles for the girls team as she dominated the shot put by nearly 10 feet with a toss of 36 feet, 7 inches. She also won the 200 dash in 29.39, and was the runner-up in the 400 dash in 1-minute, 4.81 seconds.
Mikayla Westgerdes tossed the discus 72 feet, 5 inches to give the Indians a throwing event sweep, and Becca Tobe won the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches. Abby May added a third-place effort at 14.3 in the 100 dash.[[In-content Ad]]
